Results of C2, C3 and C4 and "picture of the week"

Three trophies were hotly contested this week at Irvine Camera Club’s annual set subject
photography competition. Honours were up for grabs in three categories… sports,
landscape and human portrait.
The club was delighted to have honorary vice president of the Scottish Photographic
Federation, Libby Smith judge all three of the competitions. Libby brings a wealth of
national and international photography experience to her judging. She gave considered and
helpful advice for each of the club members who had submitted their work, demonstrating
not only her tremendous technical understanding of photography and post-processing, but
also her appreciation of composition and artistry.
We were delighted to see a good variation of subject and styles across all three subjects and
the overall high quality of the entries did not make it easy for Libby to select the best
images.
In sports Alan Kempster won with his dramatic speedway shot “Giving it Wellie”. Second
place went to Kevin Thorne with “Hard Left” and Jakki Kyle got Third place with “Regatta”
In the portrait section, Alan Kempster continued his winning streak with an environmental
portrait on a nautical theme “Ethnic Pugwash”. In second place was Clive Watkins with
“Edward” and Ian Mortimer came in third with “Love me, Love my dog”
Clive was also awarded the first place in landscapes with his moody “Storm clearing at
Elgol”. Jakki Kyle scored again with second place for her Outlander inspired “The Pulpit”.
Ross Happell earned a well deserved 3 rd place with his autumnal colourful shot “Loch
Faskally”
Several other entries in each category were also commended by Libby. All of the recognised
entries can be found on the club’s web site along with details of our on-going programme.
Anyone with an interest in photography is always welcome to come along to the club where
they will meet other photographers of all levels of ability, from absolute beginners to
seasoned practitioners. We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, Townend Community
Centre, Dreghorn.
